Curriculum
The academic rigor at St. Helen Catholic School is one that challenges students appropriate to their grade level. St. Helen helps students to develop key learning and thinking skills that are the foundation for future learning. We strive for our students to experience the joy of learning so they evolve as passionate, life-long learners.
Kindergarten through fifth grade are self-contained classrooms. Grade level teachers are responsible for instruction in all core subject matters. Students will go to a different location for specialty instruction for art, technology, Spanish, music, and physical education. Specialty teachers and teacher aides assist with language arts and math classes. This enables teachers to further tailor instruction to meet the students’ different learning abilities.
Grades six through eight participate in a fully departmentalized program of study. Language arts, Mathematics, Religion, Science, Social Studies, Spanish, Art, Music, Computers, and Physical Education are taught by teachers who specialize in these subject areas. Students change classes each period and move to where the appropriate teacher for the specialty instruction is located.
The primary goal of St. Helen’s program of instruction is to develop the whole child – body, mind, and soul. Through various learning experiences, students will mature spiritually, intellectually, emotionally, and physically. Students will have the opportunity to develop academic skills, good work and study habits, and a mindset ready to achieve.
The curriculum includes Religion, Language Arts (Reading, Grammar, Spelling, Phonics, Handwriting, and Composition), Math, Science, Social Studies, Spanish, Computers, Library, Music, Physical Education, and Art.
